Walter (Gus) A. Beichner, 73 of Shippenville, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
Born September 16, 1937 on the family farm in Shippenville, he was the son of Enos and Elda Motter Beichner who preceded him in death.
Mr. Beichner was a lifelong resident of Shippenville area.
He served in the US Army from 1960 to 1962 and was stationed in Mannheim Germany.
He was married on June 6, 1964 to L. Sue Master who survives.
Mr. Beichner was a truck driver in the logging industry for 45 years, and worked for numerous companies in the area including: Fulton Lumber, Beary Logging, and Georgia Pacific.
He was a member of the Clarion County Farmers Market and the New Bethlehem Farmers Market. He was know by many as the Potato Man.
Mr. Beichner was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg.
Mr. Beichner enjoyed spending time with his family including his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, spending time cruising around his property on his golf cart, and hunting. He enjoyed getting out and talk with people.
Mr. Beichner is survived by his wife and four daughters: Cindy Mohney and husband Shawn of New Bethlehem; Carol Kaltenbach and husband Kevin of Cranberry; Sherry Wiant and husband Don of Shippenville; Melissa Rex and husband Randy of Shippenville. Grandchildren surviving include: Zachary Kline; Colten Mohney; Ashley and Amber Kaltenbach; Brady and Jordan Wiant; Hope, RT, and Roxanne Rex. Great-grandchild Julia Paige Rex also survive. Siblings surviving are: Bernice Wolbert, Ethel Nugent, Lucy Etzel, Ruth Brandon, Mary McClelland, Henry Beichner and wife Joan. Sister-in-laws surviving include Tillie Beichner and Imogene Beichner. One Brother-in-law Francis Whitmire also survives.
Mr. Beichner was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Martha Cohlhepp; Albert Beichner; Alvin Beichner; Floyd Beichner; Dotty Whitmire.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Faller Funeral Home, Inc in Fryburg. Parish vigil service will be held at 3:45 PM in the funeral home.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 in St. Michael Church Fryburg with the Rev. William C. Miller pastor of St. Joseph Church Lucinda as the celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the St. Michael Church in Fryburg or Charitable Deeds, 98 Hickory Lane, Knox, PA 16232.
