Theodore “Ted” Baumgartner, “The Legend”, age 86 of Tionesta, passed away on Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2026, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born December 8, 1939, in Reserve Township, Allegheny County, he was a son of the late Frank Baumgartner and Julia Walther Baumgartner.
He joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in March 1959.
Ted married the love of his life, the former Janet M. Verzinski on January 28, 1967. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2016.
He worked as a mechanic for Armour Company in Crafton until the plant closed in 1983. He eventually moved to Tionesta and worked for PENN DOT until his retirement.
Ted was a member of the St. Michael Church in Fryburg and the Fryburg Sportsman’s Club. He loved to hunt, fish and spend his days outdoors.
His legacy will live on through his children: Richard Baumgartner; Tammy Hoffman (Ed Pfab), Julia Boggs (Dale), Tracy Gilbert (Scott), and Chuck Fields (Kristen), and 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ted was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Pawlowski, and his siblings: Frank Baumgartner, Elizabeth Steinmetz and Rosemarie Ransom.
Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the Faller/Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 19200 Route 208, Fryburg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2026, in the St. Michael Church, 18765 Route 208, Fryburg. Father Brandon Kleckner will serve as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Venus Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Craig E. Fleming American Legion Post #066 of Clarion.
