Rachel M. Motter, 86, of Venus passed away December 4, 2013 surrounded by her family at the home of her granddaughter, Heather Comstock, after lengthy illness.
Born August 17, 1927 she was the daughter of James F. and Hattie A. Lewis Hogg.
Mrs. Motter graduated for Worthington High School in 1945 and she graduated from Fellers Beauty School in Oil City in 1946. She also received her cosmetology teachers certificate in 1969.
Mrs. Motter was married to Donald W. Motter, the love of her life, in 1946 who preceded her in death on January 9, 2003.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Venus.
Mrs. Motter operated a Beauty shop at her home in Hampton Station from 1956 to 1969. she then went to work for General Telephone for 3 years. Mrs. Motter also worked for 10 years for National Fuel until her retirement.
Prior to their retirement she and her husband had a home built on Pine Island in Florida and had many friends there. After her retirement Rachel and her husband enjoyed spending their winters in Hawaii with their daughter Teresa and also with their son Tom in North Carolina. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling with her husband. She and her husband also enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Lucky Twirlers. Rachel also enjoyed hunting. In her later years Rachel enjoyed riding with her son-in-law on his Harley-Davidson.
Rachel was a member of the Ruth Circle at Faith Lutheran Church and also was a quilter at the church. She was a honorary member of the 159th Combat Engineers of the US Army.
Rachel is survived by a son Thomas L Motter and his wife Mary Ellen of Lexington NC, a daughter Cynthia M Coogan and her husband James of Madisonville TN and their summer home in Ahrensville, a daughter Teresa M Wrhen and her husband Alan of Deland, FL, and a daughter-in-law Judy Knight of Clayton NC. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, sisters: Emma Campbell and Nora Winifred Stroup and a foster son Timothy Knight. Rachel was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Friends will be received on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 9am – 11am at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 am on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Venus with Rev. John A. Wood pastor presiding. Burial will be in the Venus Cemetery following the service.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Venus.
