Paul R. Ditz, age 88 of Shippenville, passed away at Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, early Sunday morning, March 30, 2025, following a brief illness.
Born October 6, 1936 in Lucinda, he was the son of the late Ambrose Ditz and Edna Smerker Ditz.
He was married to Mary Schettler Ditz, whom he married on August 1, 1964, and she survives. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2024.
Paul graduated from North Clarion High School and also graduated from draft school, and was a U.S Army Veteran. He worked in the mobile home industry, then Joy Manufacturing as a draftsman. He also built many custom kitchens throughout the area. He was a member of the IAM Machinist Union.
He was a well-known craftsman in woodworking and cabinetry, was an avid bowler who bowled a 300 game at the age of 70. He was a very loyal Pirates and Steelers fan. He also enjoyed going out to eat with his wife, and spending time with his family. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting. He was known as a very kind soft-hearted gentleman.
Paul is survived by two sons and one daughter; Daniel (Laurie) Ditz, Richard Paul Ditz, and Karen (John) Wolbert, all of Shippenville; seven granddaughters: Kristin (Tyler) Obenrader, Brianna (Tara) Wolbert, Jaclyn (Cody) Dolby, Danielle (Aaron) Wise, Amber (Alex) Wolbert, Lindsey Wolbert, Anna (Billy) Ditz; 11 great grandchildren: Louella, Vivian, Jackson, John, Jamison, Evan, Aurora, Colton, Ryleigh, Ava and Carter.
Also surviving are a brother and sister, William Ditz and Margaret “Peg” Zacherl.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a great grandson, Isaac Wolbert; two brothers, James Ditz and infant brother Leonard; sister-in-law, Freda Ditz, and a brother-in-law, Michael Zacherl.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at the Faller/Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 19200 Route 208, Fryburg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at St. Michael Church, 18765 Route 208, Fryburg. Father Cory Pius, parochial vicar, as Celebrant.
