Paul Harvey Pinkerton, Jr., age 82 of Marble, passed away unexpectedly at the Clarion Hospital following a sudden illness, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
Born June 8, 1943, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Paul Harvey Pinkerton and Carrie Margaret Brink Pinkerton.
On August 23, 1969, he married Victoria Lee “Vickie” Hise at the First Church of God in Punxsutawney. She survives.
Harvey began his career with the USDA Soil Conservation Service as a student trainee while attending Penn State University in State College. Upon graduation in 1965, with a degree in Agricultural Mechanization, he became a full-time employee in Mercer County as a soil conservationist. During his career he was assigned to Jefferson County (District Conservationist), Tioga County (Soil Conservationist), Susquehanna County (District Conservationist), Clarion County (RAMP Specialist), and ended his 40 plus year career in Clarion County as the RC&D Coordinator with the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, retiring in 2004.
As RC&D Coordinator, he was very proud of his work raising funds and coordinating the installation of dry hydrants in Northwest Pennsylvania.
While living in Susquehanna County, he became a member of the Grange and Warren Lodge of Freemasons in Montrose. He was also a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Venus.
Harvey was a founding member of the North Clarion Players, presenting numerous musicals at the Verna Leith Sawmill Theatre at Cook Forest State Park, where he had the opportunity to exhibit his terpsichorean talents. He was also a horologist.
He enjoyed traveling within the United States, especially camping. His interests were in historical and natural areas, and he could spend hours in a museum, taking in every written description! Canada was the only foreign country he visited, especially enjoying Ontario and Prince Edward Island. Only 8 states remained on his bucket list to visit.
Harvey enjoyed motorhome travel after retirement, snow-birding for 12 years in Florida to spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include Vickie, his wife of 56 years; two children: Paul David Pinkerton of Cascade, Maryland, and Cheryl Dianne Bailey (Matthew) of Fryburg; grandchildren: Kayla Nikol Hendrickson and Jordyn LeeAnne Bailey, of Pennsylvania, and granddaughter, Brittany Bailey and great-granddaughter, Skyler, of Massachusetts.
Harvey is also survived by his brother, Richard Brink Pinkerton (Essi) of Pittsburgh, and two nieces: Klara Pinkerton of Rochester, New York and Erika Sloos (Devin) of Winnipeg, Canada.
Family and friends will be received from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Faith Lutheran Church, 1759 County Line Road, Venus.
Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., in the church, with Pastor Jeff Piccirilli officiating.
Interment will take place in the Coolspring Cemetery, Coolspring, Jefferson County.
