Martha Friedrichs McKissick, 88, of Fryburg passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
Born on December 24, 1924 in Brestau, Germany (now Poland) she was the daughter of Edmund and Karoline Westrich Friedrichs.
Martha and her parents came by ship to the United States and arrived at Ellis Island on March 23, 1950. She spoke German and Polish and learned English upon arriving in the states. She and her family lived in rural Tionesta. She worked at the Tionesta Telephone Office and Titusville GTE (Sylvania).
She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She especially enjoyed taking care of her flowers both inside her house and outside.
Martha was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church on German Hill in Tionesta.
On July 27, 1962 Martha was married to Claude S. McKissick of Fryburg. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1999.
Martha is survived by neighbors and friends, McKissick and Bell cousins. Also surviving are nephew Walter McKissick of Oil City, nieces Sandra McKissick Mullen and husband Norris of Oil City, and Rose Marie McKissick Dehner and husband Larry of Knox.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Claude.
Friends and family will be received from 1pm to 2pm on Friday March 15, 2013 at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Samuel Mabugu, Pastor of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, German Hill.
Burial will be in the Venus Cemetery following the service.
