Leonard J. Stoughton, 83, of Lickingville, passed away at his home on July 22, 2016 after a brief illness.
Born on March 24, 1933 in Hooker, PA, Butler County he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Ethel “Mae” Wiles Stoughton.
On October 1, 1965 in Mercer, PA, he was married to the former Nancy M. Zerres Stoughton who survives.
He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Shippenville.
Leonard was a truck driver when he was first married and in 1969 he started Stoughton Recycling, a scrap business, in Chicora PA. He took a few years off from the scrap business until about 1989 he opened Triple S Recycling in Slippery Rock, PA. On February 4, 1994 he moved the business to its current location in Lickingville, PA. Then on June 26, 1995 he turned the business over to his sons as a partnership. Leonard still remained active in the business, helping his sons by run errands for the next year until his health started to deteriorate.
When he was not at the scrap yard Leonard enjoyed attending stock car races and auctions. He also started collecting replica miniature cars and light houses. He also enjoyed watching and listen to both the Pirates and the Steelers.
Leonard is survived by his wife Nancy and their children Patricia G. Johnson and her husband David of Slippery Rock, PA; John C. Stoughton, Sr. and his wife Theresa of Lickingville; and Robert J. Stoughton also of Lickingville. A grandson John C. Stoughton, Jr. of West Sunbury, PA; a granddaughter Jennifer P. (Johnson) Dombeck and her husband Stephen of Slippery Rock, PA (who were married July 2, 2016); and two step-granddaughters Heather Johnson of MacDonald, PA; and Shayla Ganci of Snydersburg, PA also survive. Four step-great grandchildren, Dylan and Emma Delaney of MacDonald, and Nathan Roberts and Aubrey Ganci of Snydersburg; a sister Grace Libecco of Chicora, PA and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Laura Mae, two brothers John Stoughton and Charles (Buster) Stoughton and two sisters Irene Cumberland and Mary (Toots) McCrea.
Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on July 28, 2016 from 1-8pm.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on July 30, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses in Shippenville.
