Karen L. Hartzell, 64, of Fryburg, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 after a lengthy illness.
Born on December 20, 1951 in Oil City she was the daughter of Harold and Ethel Motter Lechner.
She was a 1970 graduate of Venango Christian High School.
She was married to Alvin J. Smrekar and most recently to David H. Hartzell.
Karen was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg.
At the age of 60 she earned the title of LPN and before that she had worked at Knox Glass and Owens Brockway.
Karen enjoyed camping, crocheting and gardening.
Karen is survived by her sons Daniel Smrekar and Brent Smrekar of Shippenville, and a daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hartzell and grandson David of Venus. Her mother Ethel Lechner of Shippenville, an uncle Charles L. Motter of Shippenville, a brother Harold Lechner and his wife Paula of Fryburg, her companion Bob Conner, a sister-in-law Judy Carter and nieces Debbie Barnes and Laurie Tomko also survive. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her father Harold Lechner, her husband Alvin Smrekar, her second husband David H. Hartzell and her son Cory Hartzell.
Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
Mass of a Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at St. Michael Church in Fryburg, with Rev. D.G. Davis III, Pastor of St. Michael Church presiding. Interment will be in the St. Michael Cemetery following the service.
