John Vogelbacher Obituary

John L. Vogelbacher, 73 of Fryburg, passed away December 28, 2011 after a long battle with cancer and Leukemia.
 
Born March 28, 1938 in Lucinda, PA, he was  the son of the late Leonard "Cy" and Hilda Schmader Vogelbacher.
 
He was married to Darla Runyan who preceded him in death.  Later John married Esther Siegel, who survives.
 
John worked for North Penn Gas Company for 42 years.  He was also the owner/operator of John Vogelbacher & Daughters Trenching and worked for many people in the area.
 
For many people woodworking is just a hobby but for John it was his passion.  He enjoyed building furniture for all the members of his family.  John also enjoyed going out to breakfast with friends Charlie, Mike and Jim.
 
He  is survived by his wife and four daughters, all of whom he was so very proud, Chris Lauer and her husband Ray of Fryburg, Julie Smerkar and her husband Doug of Fryburg, Wendy Lauer and her husband Ken of Lucinda, and Jamie Vogelbacher of Knox.  John also had eight grandchildren who survive: Amy Baumcratz and her husband Matt, Lacey Wolbert and her husband Shawn, Cody Lauer, Darla Smerkar, Shane Smerkar, Mathias Smerkar, Tyler Lauer and Estee Lauer.  Great-grandchildren surviving include Kaylee and Kaden Baumcratz.  Siblings surviving are a brother Jerry Vogelbacher and his wife MaryAnn and a sister Dorothy Schmader and her husband Gene.  He is also survived by his much loved puppy dog Josie.
 
He  was preceded in death by his first wife Darla and a daughter Amy Jo, who passed away together in school bus accident.  He was also preceded in death by an infant grandson Tony Lauer and a sister Patricia Loll.
 
Faller Funeral Home Inc. in Fryburg will be caring for the family.
 
At John's request there will not be a public visitation.
 
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church in Fryburg with the Rev. D.G. Davis III, presiding.
 
Internment will be in the St. Michael Cemetery following the mass.
 
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the St. Michaels Food Bank of Northwestern Clarion County or Adult Daily Living Center in Shippenville.
