John S. Strickenberger, age 85 of Tionesta, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at home following a sudden illness.
Born December 23, 1939, in Fryburg, he was a son of the late George A. Strickenberger and Mildred P. Smerkar Stickenberger.
He was a 1957 graduate of North Clarion High School and a US Army Veteran.
John was a member of the St. Michael Church in Fryburg, the Fryburg Sportsman's Club, and the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox.
He retired from Washington Township and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, farming, and tree farming.
John is survived by his siblings: JoAnn McMeans of Warren and her children, Kim, Bob, and Jeff; Jim (Nancy) Strickenberger of Tionesta and their children, Jimmy, Kelley, and Kasey; Kathy “Kate” (Tim) Nale of Venus and their children, Tina, Marcy, Betsy, and Kayla and Charlie (Wenda) Strickenberger of Leeper and their daughter, Andrea; the children of his deceased sister, Elaine McMeans: Tim, Scott, Michael and Michelle, and Chelsea Carbaugh, the daughter of his deceased sister, Susie Carbaugh. John proudly claimed all his nieces and nephews as his own.
He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Woody McMeans of Sheffield, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and sisters, John was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Jim McMeans and Bob Carbaugh.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the Faller/Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 19200 Route 208, Fryburg.
Prior to calling hours, private military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox at 1:45 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday in the St. Michael Church, 18765 Route 208, Fryburg. Father Cory Pius, Parochial Vicar, will serve as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the St. Michael Cemetery.
