John Morris Nugent, Jr., age 96, formerly of Venus, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 24,2026.
He was born October 20,1929 in Elmo, to the late John and Mary Nugent.
John was a devout Christian and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He joined the United States Army at age 18, where he was stationed in Germany for most of the Korean Conflict. Upon his return home, he attended barber school and was a barber for many years, during which time he met his wife Donna, with whom he shared many happy years with until her death in September 2019.
During their years together, John and Donna welcomed two sons, Greg Nugent of Clarion, and Dan Nugent of Oil City. They spent most of their years together in Venus raising their sons. They regularly attended church together and were always taking care of the garden and sitting on the porch. John never missed a day of taking care of his wife in her later years and visited her daily while she was in the nursing home.
John worked at Joy Manufacturing for many years until he retired; during a few layoffs, he drove school bus. After retirement, he worked many odd jobs to keep busy including delivering The Derrick, working at Sarah Janes Deli in Fryburg, driving school bus, and working at Advanced Auto.
He was a member of the Washington Township Fire Department, where he served as a fireman and then fire police officer.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Bigley Nugent, all his siblings, several nieces and nephews and a great grandson, Parker.
He leaves behind his two sons, Dan and Greg; three granddaughters and four great grandchildren: Emily Coon and husband, Justin, of Lucinda, and their children, Damon, Rhea and Everette; Madison Nugent and her fiancé, Bradlee Sheredy, of Northern Cambria, and Ashlyn Holben and her daughter, Braelyn Holben, of Corsica.
