Henry Phillip Lencer, Sr., 90, of Crown, passed away on March 4, 2025.
Born December 8, 1934, in Halton, he was the son of the late Michael and Barbara Shereonovich Lencer. His family later moved to Crown.
Henry was a graduate of Farmington High School, Class of 1952.
On May 18, 1963, he was married in St. Michael Church, Fryburg, by Monsignor Frances Theobald to the former Catherine Karg, who survives.
Henry loved farming, so he moved his family to take over the family farm after his father’s passing.
In addition to farming and gardening, Henry was a man of many talents and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed being a mechanic. You would often find Henry tinkering with almost any broken machinery to get it to work. When he wasn’t busy on the farm or in the garage, he would often be found in a stream fishing or the woods hunting. But if asked what he enjoyed most, he would say his family, especially his thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Henry worked across several industries over the years, gaining a reputation for his dedication and work ethic. For several years, he owned and operated his own hauling truck, taking on work for Siegel Coal, Zacherl Coal, G. A. Stiles Coal, Benninger Coal, Interstate 80, and Emlenton Limestone. From 1965 to 1988, he co-owned the Lencer Esso Service Station in
Leeper alongside his brother, Anthony ‘Tony’ Lencer, serving the community for 23 years. After that, he took on roles with Farmington Township, where he worked as a Roadmaster and Supervisor for several years. Eventually, he returned to trucking with Gerard Bauer Trucking and later joined County Environmental of Leeper, where he worked until his retirement in 2008 at the age of 74.
He was a member of St. Mary Church in Crown and a lifetime member of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department.
Six children survive him: Julie Lencer of Leeper, Michael (Renee) Lencer of Knox, Jolene (Jody) Ion of Cranberry, Henry (Sue) Lencer, Jr. of Leeper, Steven (Jess) Lencer of Leeper, Carol Bell of Knox, and Chad Bell of Franklin.
