Hazel Marie Allaman McKissick passed from this life on Sunday, May 29, 2011. She was born February 7, 1918 at the Allaman family home in rural Shippenville, PA. She was the fourth child of Harriet Motter Allaman and Harry Allaman.
At age 93 she reached the longest life span of her siblings Marnia McCall, Russell and Merrill Allaman.
She was a 1936 graduate of Shippenville High School. She was of the Lutheran Faith having been baptized at home and confirmed at the former Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Shippenville. She met Melvin L. McKissick of Fryburg at a joint Lutheran League event and they were married May 28, 1938, at Mt. Zion. She had been a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Parish, both Salem and St. Peter's Since 1942.
She belonged to Order of Eastern Star in Emlenton and the Jolly 8 Club, a neighborhood quilting club. During her early life she was employed at various industries including Chicago Pneumatic in Franklin during WWII on a munitions assembly line for the war effort.
She worked with her husband who owned and operated the Lamartine Feed Store before they bought and operated for over 40 years a dairy, beef and grain farm in rural Knox (Pilgrimham) and Newmansville. She was a homemaker and raised poultry. She had a green-thumb and was known for her house plants and large vegetable garden.
Most recently, she resided at Wesbury UM Retirement Community, in Meadville since March 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin on September 12, 2002.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Rose Marie and Larry Dehner, grandsons surviving are Erik Scott Dehner, and grandson Mark McKissick Dehner and his wife Nicole and a great-grandchild to be born in July all of Knox. Also surviving is one sister-in-law Martha McKissick.
Visitation will be held at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. There will also be a visitation on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 held at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. from 11am - 2pm. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Pastor Deborah Jacobson, Pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran church of St. Petersburg will preside. Interment will follow at the Dehner Cemetery near Fryburg.
