George Kapp Obituary

George R. "Dick"  Kapp, 80, of Venus passed away January 1, 2013 after a lengthy illness.

Born on September 21, 1932 in Oil City he was the son of George and Mildred Shorts Kapp.

He was a graduate of Shippenville High School.  After graduation from high school he attended Clarion College. 

Dick served as a tank mechanic in the Army during the Korean Conflict and he was stationed in Germany.

Dick was married on January 21, 1956 to the former Ruth Ehrhart who survives.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Venus where he was an assisting minister, he taught Sunday School, and also served on church council for many years.

Early in life Dick worked in the oil fields for Kapp Drilling.  Dick owned and operated a dairy farm in Venus until 1968.  He then went to work at National Fuel Gas until his retirement in 1993. 

Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time in the outdoors.  In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball in the Venus Hay Rake League.  He also served on the board of the Venus Cemetery Association for many years.

Dick is survived by his wife and sons Brady Kapp Sr. and wife Diane of Venus and G. Jeffrey Kapp and wife Cindy of Clarion.  He is survived by grandchildren: Holly Bowser and husband Cole of Marble, Missy Amsler and husband Bob of Venus, Brady Kapp Jr. and wife Bethany of Tionesta and Dustin Kapp and girlfriend Andrea Porco of Columbus, IN.  Great-grandchildren include Trevor and Mattison Amsler and he was also anticipating the birth of his third great-grandchild.  Also surviving is a brother Donald Kapp and his wife Joyce of Venus. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Robert and Edward Kapp. 

As per his wishes there will be no public visitation.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00 am in Faith Lutheran Church in Venus with Rev. John A. Wood pastor presiding.

Interment will be held in the Venus Cemetery following the service.

Memorials in Dick's name may be made to Alzheimer's Association or American Diabetes Association.
