Eunice Slye Obituary

Eunice K. Slye, 99, of Venus passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Oakwood Heights after period of declining health.

 

Born on December 3,1919 in Shippenville she was the daughter of Harry T. and Ruth V. Davis Wingard.

 

She was a graduate of Shippenville High School.

 

On December 19, 1941 she was married to Charles H. Slye who preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 2005.

 

Eunice was a member of the Pine City Free Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and led class meetings. She was also an officer of the Missionary Society for some years

 

Before she was married Eunice worked as a nanny and maid in Oil City for the Brown and McGill families. While working for the Brown family she met her soon to be husband Charles. After she was married she stayed at home to care for her family and their home. She was an avid reader, gardener, enjoyed caring for her flowers and also helped out around the farm. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

 

Eunice is survived by a daughter Lita Beck of Rockland; a daughter Violetta Davis of DuBois; a son Charles “Merritt” Slye and wife Patty of Coal Hill; and a daughter Iris Jane Delp and husband Jode R. of Brockway. Fourteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren also survive. Siblings surviving include a sister Fern Reese of Brookville, brother Rev. Herbert Wingard and wife Bertel of Indiana, sister Ida Edgar of Missouri, and sisters-in-law Betty Lou Wingard of Oregon and Judy Wingard of Shippenville. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, a son-in-law Victor Beck, a granddaughter Lorraine Beck-Marticic, and four great-grandchildren. Brothers Mervin, Merritt, Alfred, John, Stewart, and sisters Iris Jane Carrier, and Naomi Lewis, and sisters-in-law Connie Wingard, Gertrude Wingard, Audine Wingard, Mathil Wingard, Verda Wingard, and Helen Wingard, and brothers-in-law Ed Strong, Ed Carrier, Blake Lewis, Harold Zimmerman and Jim Edgar also preceded her in death.

 

Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 10-11am.

Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg, with Rev. John Bush Pastor of Pine City Free Methodist Church presiding.

Interment will be in the Venus Cemetery following the service.
