Dolores Bauer Obituary

Dolores Marie McNamara Bauer, 82, of Clarion, passed away on November 8, 2012 at UPMC Northwest, in Seneca.

Dolores was born in Pittsburgh (a South Hills native) to John and Margaret (Martin) McNamara on September 14, 1930.  She graduated from the prestigious St. Francis Academy for Women in Pittsburgh, PA.

Dolores had a great many interests.  On top of that list was being a devout Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  Dolores was quite a movie buff and especially enjoyed watching the great musicals of the 1930s and 1940s.  Dolores also had a great love of reading romance novels - Betty Neels was one of her favorite authors.  Dolores was outgoing and friendly and became quick friends with whoever she would meet, especially those who shared her interests in the Steelers!   You could tell you were entering Steelers Country when going into her home.  She never missed a game in over 65 years.  As she was fond of saying “Go Steelers”!!!  Dolores was also ‘very proud’ of her Irish heritage, dressing up head to toe in Irish festive attire.

Dolores worked many jobs while growing up in Pittsburgh.  As a young girl, she took many different jobs including a paper route and working in a soda shop to help fund her tuition to go to St. Francis Academy.  After graduation from St. Francis in 1948, Dolores began a successful career as the secretary to the president for Pittsburgh Railways Co.  After relocating to the Clarion area, she worked in a publishing technical support role for the Intermediate Unit 6 in Shippenville, Pa.

She truly enjoyed working as a professional and made several good friends during this time.   She had many fond memories of going window shopping at Kaufmans during her lunch breaks.  Money she made from these jobs was also used to help her family make ends meet during the great depression.  She also used whatever money she could raise to walk to Forbes Field to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates play as a young girl.  She spent many games laying on top the dugouts.  Dolores loved to talk about her date with Jack Butler, Steeler hall of famer.

Dolores is survived by her two daughters, Diane Bauer Harrison of Denver, Colorado; Donna Bauer Heasley and husband James of Oil City, Pa.  She also is survived by her three sons, Robert (Bob) Bauer and his wife Wendy of Venus, Pa., Mark Bauer of Charlotte, N.C., and Scott Bauer and his wife Sharon of Knox, Pa.

Dolores was also ‘very’ proud of her ten grandchildren; Jessica DyAnn Allio (deceased), Ben and Elizabeth Harrison, Lee and Ken Beary, and Justin Heasley, Mandy, Heather, and Tyler Bauer, Luke Bauer, and Leia Bauer.

Visitations for family and friends will be on Sunday, November 11th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Faller Funeral Home in Fryburg.

Mass of a Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 12th at 10:00am at St. Michael Church in Fryburg with Rev D.G. Davis III of St. Michael’s Parish, officiating.   Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
