David Lutz Obituary

David Joseph Lutz, 86, of Marble, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2015 at his home.

Born on August 13, 1928 in Snydersburg, PA he was the son of Guy J. and Louise Lander Lutz.

David attended St. Joseph School in Lucinda.

On May 12, 1962 he was married to the former Mary J. “Tip” Hargenrader Lutz who survives.

David was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg. He was also a member of the Rosary Society, he served as an usher, and he also cared for the grounds at the St. Michael School. He could often be found brush hogging the field behind the St. Michael School in preparation for the annual Labor Day Picnic.

He worked for Pennzoil as a high lift operator and retired from there after 41 years of service.

David and his wife enjoyed traveling to visit the National Parks and they also took two train trips across the United States. They especially enjoyed visiting their good friends Steve and Rita Eisenman in Arizona.

In his free time David enjoyed gardening, yard work, mowing and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time restoring his tractors. He volunteered at the Boy Scout recycling center in Leeper for a number of years. He enjoyed spending time playing cards with his grandchildren and also his Sunday night card games. Recently he also enjoyed going to the casino with his sisters.

David was a member of the VFW in Clarion, and a prior member of the Fryburg Sportsman's Club.

He served in the United States Army during Korean Conflict and spent his service time in Berlin.

He is survived by his wife and their children: Mark Lutz of Marble; Kimberly Rathfon and husband Lance of Leeper; and Theresa Zerbe and husband Matt of Lucinda. Grandchildren surviving include: Zak Lutz and his wife Danielle; Shane Lutz and wife Sara; Tabatha Howland; Whitney, Hilliary, Gabrielle and Leah Rathfon; Morgan Zerbe. Great-grandchildren surviving include: David and Callie Lutz; Alina Lutz; Samantha and Nicolas Howland. He is also survived by a sister Alice Guntrum and husband Roy; a sister Katie Luden and husband Regis; a sister-in-law Marion Lutz; a sister-in-law Betty Lutz; a sister-in-law Barb Pfendler; a brother-in-law Don Hargenrader and wife JoAnn; a sister-in-law Peg Wolbert; a sister-in-law Joan Graham and husband Robert; a brother-in-law Joe Hargenrader and wife Marge; a sister-in-law Janet LaCaze; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife Theresa Bills Lutz. Also preceding him in death were brothers: Kenneth, Clarence, Winfield, and Albinus. An infant sister Ellen, a sister Mary Holder and her husband Tom, and brother-in-laws Roy Wolbert and Randall LaCaze also preceded him in death.

Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. 

Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at St. Michael Church in Fryburg, with Rev. D.G. Davis III, Pastor of St. Michael Church presiding.

Interment will be in the St. Michael Cemetery following the service.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Luderer for all that he has done for Dave over the years.

Memorials in David's honor may be made to St. Michael Church Ceiling Restoration Fund.
