Charles Weaver Obituary

Charles W. “Charlie” Weaver, age 88 of Marble, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, while surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, and was the son of the late Brady and Ruth Schettler Weaver.

On August 8, 1959, he married the love of his life, Janet Schmader Weaver, who survives, and they had 66 years together.  He adored his wife and never missed an opportunity to praise her cooking.  At family gatherings, everyone knew that you had to move if you wanted the first plate, as he was always, famously, first in line!

Born January 8, 1938 on the family farm that dates back to 1880, he tended to dairy cows until 1978, then transitioning to beef cattle until hanging up his love of farming in 2017.  While farming, he also enjoyed a long career as a truck driver, until the age of 74, and was known to his colleagues as “Badger”.  Charlie especially enjoyed working for his last employer, Hager Paving. He formed many bonds and friendships that lasted a lifetime.

He was a member of the St. Michaels Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Fryburg Sportsman’s Club.

Charlie was the kind of man who could turn an ordinary moment into a memorable one with a story.  Whether sitting around the kitchen table, on the porch, or the campfire, he loved sharing stories from years gone by. Stories that brought so much laughter and joy.  His grandchildren especially treasured those moments, hanging on to every word.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Schmader Weaver, and their five children: Sharon (Bill) Kalna of Lickingville, Charles (Jan) Weaver of Marble, Jackie (Brian) Schmader of Leeper, Mark (Yvonne) Weaver of Lucinda, and Amy (Cory) Schmader of Brookville; 19 grandchildren: Tim (Erica) Nicewonger, Chad (Carrie) Nicewonger, Kacey (Matt) Gubba, Shawn (Natalie) Nicewonger, Kelly (Nathan) Smerker, Alisha (Chad) Clark, Sarah (Travis) Smith, Isabelle (Joel) Cyphert, Kent Carroll, Bill (Marlie) Carroll, Nick (Bella) Schmader, Renee (Ted) Fry, Derek (Katelin) Weaver, Zach (Cassie) Weaver, Maggie Schmader, Austin Schmader, Madelyn Schmader, Sophia Schmader and Harrison Schmader, and 36 great grandchildren and one on the way.  He loved attending all their sporting events and adored them all, as they adored him.

Charlie is survived by four siblings: Marie Bauer, Brady Weaver, Dave (Gerry) Weaver, and Gary (Karen) Weaver; numerous nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Peg Weaver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Florence Lander Schmader; siblings: Daniel and Thomas Weaver; great granddaughter, Ava Nicewonger; sisters-in-law: Barb Schmader, Dorothy Weaver, Mary Weaver and Kathy Weaver; brothers-in-law: Norbert Bauer, Clancy Schmader and Ronald Wolbert, and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the Faller/Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 19200 Route 208, Fryburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2026, at St. Michael’s Church, 18765 Route 208, Fryburg.  Father Cory Pius, Parochial Vicar, will serve as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Michael’s cemetery.
