Bernard Eugene "Gene" Steer

Bernard Eugene (Gene) Steer, 80, of Old State Route 157 Venus PA passed away July 7, 2015 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh after an extended illness.

Born on November 18, 1934 in Oil City he was the son of Raymond and Kathleen Stoughton Steer. He was raised by George and Kathleen Stoughton Wurster.

Gene graduated from Shippenville High School in 1952.

On April 13, 1955 he was married to the former Beatrice Faller who survives.

Gene was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church Venus, PA.

He retired from Franklin Steel after over 30 years of work.

Gene grew up with the Lester Glass family of Venus with whom he continued to have a close relationship and thought of as his second family.

Gene loved to go hunting, fishing, and golfing. He also enjoyed talking with his friend Lee Beightol.

He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife Beatrice he is survived by his children Linda and Bob Miller, Tionesta; Bill Steer, Oil City; Jeanne Steer, Pittsburgh; Debbie and Darko Puz, Hadson OH; Cyndi and Mike Meddock, Venus; Michael and Lisa Steer, Dover , OH; Shane Steer, Venus.

Also surviving are grandchildren: Scott Miller; Tina Flick; Brett Steer; Steven and Benjamin Tenney; Frank and Emma Puz; Josh Meddock; Jeffrey Francis Jr.; Chelsea Estrada; Alexandra Meddock; Mathew and Nathan Steer. Great-grandchildren surviving include: Isaac and Ava Miller; Izabelle and Grace Flick; Aiden and Isabella Tenney; Kylie and Evelyn Meddock; Ethan and Henry Francis; Zoie and Mathius Estrada. He is also surivived by numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; a son George Alan Steer; a sister Rita Wagner; and a favorite aunt Phyllis Loper.

Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Thursday July 9, 2015 from 4pm to 7pm.

Funeral service will be held at 7:30 pm on Thursday July 9, 2015 at Faller Funeral Home with Rev. John A. Wood, Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, Venus presiding.

Interment will be in the Venus Cemetery .

Memorials in Gene's honor may be made to American Heart Association or charity of ones choice.
