Robert Ray Schreckengost, age 70 of Shippenville, PA passed away July 27, 2018 at home after a fierce battle with cancer. Bob’s main purpose was to protect and provide for his family.
Born on July 27, 1948 in Rimersburg, PA he was the son of William “Shorty” and Gladys “Tootie” (Coursen) Schreckengost.
He graduated from Union Joint High School in Rimersburg, PA in 1966. He was married to Rose Hartle Schreckengost on February 12, 1972 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fryburg, PA.
Bob served as a Sargent in the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge in December 1969. He served the majority of his service in the DMZ in Korea. During his service to our country he qualified as an expert marksman. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rimersburg Post 7132 and the American Legion Post 0066.
Bob started working at the age of 15 doing construction and his strong ethic continued throughout his lifetime. He worked as a truck driver for Hartle Trucking, the Maintenance Supervisor for Shippenville Borough, and was a DEP Licensed Water and Sewage Operator for Quality Life Services.
Anyone who knew Bob, knew he was an avid car enthusiast and had a deep love for restoring and preserving classic cars. He was a frequent participant in local car shows and loved to share his passion with others. When his garage door was open, friends knew they could stop in for advice or a sneak peek at his next project.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose, his daughter Barbara Rae (Schreckengost) Bauer and his son Lucas John Schreckengost. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Zane Robert Bauer, Thomas Charles Lewis, and Katie Rose Schreckengost. In addition to his wife and children his is survived by his brother who was also his best friend, Ronald Schreckengost and his wife Darlene, his sister Janet (Schreckengost) Jackson and her husband Jim. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Bonnie (Schreckengost) Reynolds and infant brother Gary.
Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 1-3pm. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #66 at 3pm and funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm on July 29, 2018 at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg, with Pastor Ken Tack presiding.
