Kenneth R. Smathers

Kenneth R. Smathers, 86, formerly of Oil City passed away on Sunday November 19, 2017 in Sarasota FL where he had lived since his retirement in 1994.

Born on December 30, 1930 on the President Oil Lease in Presdient, he was the son of William Reed and Sarah Louella Smythe Smathers.

He was a 1949 graduate of Shippenville High School. Kenneth lived in Venus, Oil City, Buffalo and the retired to Florida in 1994.

On August 1, 1959 he was married to the former Geraldine Griffith who preceded him in death on July 22, 2008.

Kenneth served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict in England and received the Good Conduct Medal.

Upon his return to the states he graduated from Grove City College in 1958 and worked for National Fuel gas Co. in Oil City and Buffalo for 34 years until his retirement in 1992.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City and the First United Methodist of Sarasota.

Kenneth is survived by a daughter Ginger Smathers of Sarasota Fl. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his his parents, his wife Geraldine, five brothers Harold, William, Richard, Donald and Duane and also a sister Barbara Reed.

Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg, with Pastor Drew Bell of Polk United Methodist Church will be presiding.  Interment will be in the Venus Cemetery following the service.
