Ellen Hartle Obituary

Ellen Louise Hartle, 85, of Clarion, PA, formerly of Shippenville, PA, passed away August 6, 2017.
 
Born Sept. 28th, 1931, in Marion, Ohio, Ellen was the daughter of the late James Wesley Honaker and Sally Sara (Conley) Honaker. She was one of 12 children.
 
She married Francis Junior Hartle of Shippenville on March 28th, 1950 at the Baptist Church in Green Camp, Ohio. Her loving and beloved husband of 52 years preceded her in death on June 5th, 2002.
 
She was employed as a cook at Chandler Dining Hall, Clarion Area School District, The Manor House, and then retired from Chandler Dining Hall in 1997.
 
Ellen and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the United States, Alaska, Newfoundland, and Canada in their camper. Their best memories were camping with their grandchildren at various campgrounds in the area.
 
Ellen and her husband were well known for entertaining at their home where there was always an open door policy any time of the year.
 
In addition to cherishing the time spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren, Ellen had a wide variety of friends to travel, play cards and go shopping with her. She also enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Clarion where she made a lot of good friends. She was a past member of the Eastern Stars and the Red Hat Club.
 
Ellen was well known for her fresh apple pie and her own recipe for homemade bread and donuts. She loved to cook for her family and friends.
 
Ellen is survived by her five children and their spouses. Pete Hartle (Donna) of Shippenville, Diana Piper of Mount Holly Springs, Dutch Hartle (Sue) of Clarion, J. Darlene Weiser (Jeff) of Lucinda, and Gale Gathers (Don) of Sligo.
 
She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, Jodi Hartle, Dan Hartle, Donnie Piper, Denise Johnston, Michael Piper, Jason Piper, Emily Cipriano, DJ Hartle, Carrie Hartle, Samantha Hartle, Mary Hartle, Joseph Wagner, Eric Weiser, Dustin Weiser, Brandon Weiser, Harold Gathers, Christine Simmons.
 
In addition, she is survived by 10 great grandchidren, Dillon, Logan, Riley, Maylin, Leo, Ellie, Emma, Hudson, Anthony and Paul.
 
Ellen is also survived by 4 brothers, Wesley, Terry (Jackie), Jack, and Howard (Deb).
 
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Gary Hartle, and a son-in-law, Donald Piper, her brothers Jim, Homer, Ramond, George, Gerry and her sisters Mary and Shirley.
 
Arrangements are in the care of the Faller Funeral Home. At Ellen's request there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life in her honor will be held from noon to 4 on Saturday, August 19th at her former home, 1433 Paint Mills Rd, Shippenville, now owned by her grandson Dan Hartle.
